Things To Do (Dec. 4-6)

We are in luck this weekend, Michigan! There are a handful of great events to start your holiday season off right. December is the Friday of months, after all. Never the less, we have rounded up the top five things we think you should be doing this weekend!

5. The Annual Grand Rapids Symphony: Holiday Pops

The perfect holiday outing! The symphony chorus will be playing all of your favorites, in addition to a holiday sing along. There will even be a visit from Santa. The Grand Rapids Symphony Holiday Pops performances will continue through Sunday Dec. 6 at Davos Performance Hall. There will also be a special treat for the kids before Saturday’s matinee. Holiday Pops Spectacular will feature games, crafts, yummy snacks, an instrument petting zoo, caroling and family photos.

4. Trans-Siberian Orchestra

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a little rock opera. Give me a mug of hot cocoa and the Tran-Siberian Orchestra and I’m set. This year, fans will get to experience songs from the band’s popular PBS special, Ghosts of Christmas Eve. Performances are at 3 and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Van Andel Arena. Tickets start at $34. 3. The Annual Holiday Artists Market

Get a good start on Christmas shopping at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts this weekend! The Holiday Artists Market will have jewelry for those special women in your life, toys for the kiddos, holiday cards, home goods and fine art from over 60 regional artists. Hours are 6-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday at the Steelcase Town Hall on 44th Street SE. Admission and parking are free. More information is available at http://uica.org.

2. SKYWALKER: A Star Wars Dance Party (how awesome is this?!)

With only a few weeks until the release of  ‘Star Wars: Episode VII (The Force Awakens)’ it’s time to celebrate the rebirth of the uber-popular series in the most epic way possible. How do you do that you ask? A Star Wars dance party of course! The night will feature a costume contest (that goes without saying), a photo booth and great music to get down to with all of your wookie and ewok friends at the Pyramid Scheme in downtown Grand Rapids. Tickets are $10 at the door.

–The 72nd Annual Rockford Santa Parade is at 11 a.m. Saturday.
