5. Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella
From the creators of “The Sound of Music” and “South Pacific,” this weekend you can see Rogers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella, through Feb. 28 at the Detroit Opera House. This show features familiar moments such as the pumpkin turning into a carriage, the glass slipper, the masked ball and many memorable songs. 4. Grand Raggidy Roller Derby Double Header
The Grand Raggidy Roller Derby has a Double Header on Saturday at the Rivertown Sports Complex in Grandville. The first bout is against the Old Capitol City Roller Derby from Iowa City, Iowa. The second bout features the Grand Raggidy Attack and a mixed team called #RBF. The mixed team will be composed of skaters from leagues all over the mitten. The evening is a fundraiser for Susan G Komen Michigan. Tickets to the event are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Discounts for kids, students & seniors are available. Advanced tickets can also be purchased at http://brownpapertickets.com. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the action starts at 6 p.m.
3. Grand Rapids Griffins Community Game
The Grand Rapids Griffins have back-to-back home games this weekend at Van Andel Arena. Tonight it’s the Fifth Annual Purple Community Game presented by the Van Andel Institute. Fans can enjoy many purple elements, ranging from purple concession items to purple-themed songs and graphics during the game. On Saturday the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a Griffins baseball cap. Also, special Family 4-pack of tickets are available for a special rate. The Griffins take on the Charlotte Checkers both nights. Both games begin at 7 p.m. More info at http://griffinshockey.com.
2. Grand Rapids Boat Show
The 70th annual Grand Rapids Boat Show is this weekend at DeVos Place and features 5 acres of everything from Motor Yachts, Cruisers, Runabouts, Fishing Boats, and more. You’ll even find some pretty awesome Pontoon Boats! Admission: Adults are $10, children ages 6-14 are $4, and children 5 and under are free. More info at http://www.GRBoatShow.com

1. Grand Rapids Beer Week
It’s Beer Week GR, through Feb. 28, at various breweries in Grand Rapids as we prepare for next weekend’s Michigan Winter Beer Festival, GR Beer Week features takeovers, brewery tours, pairing dinners, and more. What’s coming up on this weekend’s Behind the Mitten?
We’re headed to Brewery Vivant for the kickoff party for Beer Week Grand Rapids. We’ll also talk desserts to the pastry chef since John is on the search for Michigan’s Best Dessert. We’ll talk events, especially some special tappings at Logan’s Alley.
