Beer of the Week September 12 North Peak Dauntless

Hops for Hope

Grand Rapids, Michigan- It has been great to partner with the Purple Community for their special fundraiser this fall called Hops for Hope.  It has to be the easiest and funnest way to raise money to fight cancer that I have ever seen!  And custom made for John and I!  All you have to do is DRINK BEER all around the state, and $1 from each pint goes directly to the Van Andel Institute where 100% of the money raised goes directly to fighting cancer.  So cool!

Our beer of the week for September 12 is the purple beer choice for the Sundance Grill, which has two locations in Grand Rapids.  John and I stopped by the downtown location, and met owner Jeff Lobdell for drinks and food. We learned a little bit about the history of Sundance, which moved in to the former Ottawa Tavern spot last year. We also discussed the fun and fast menu they will be having special for Art Prize, so you can eat good food quick and get back to the art.

So, back to the beer!  Dauntless is North Peaks Oktoberfest style lager. Available only in the fall, this is a malt forward beer, with just a bit of citrus style hops added in.  Lager beers are brewed with a special lager yeast, and are fermented at lower temperatures than ales.  This makes for a crisp clean style, which definitely shows in the flavor profile of Dauntless.

This is a beer you have to grab while you can, because it won’t be around long.  Be sure to order one next time you are at Sundance Grill, and help fight cancer with your drinking problem! (just kidding, drinking good beer is never a problem!).
