Things To Do (Jan 15-17)

So, you didn’t win the Powerball this week and it’s bumming you out? Don’t worry, there are still some great things for us mere mortals to do this weekend that don’t require a lot of cash! From snowshoeing up north to taking a drive to Grand Haven for one of their famous corndogs, we have the top five things to do this weekend.

5. Skiable Feast at Treetops Resort in Gaylord

A dream come true. You can exercise and eat at the same time! Enjoy 3.8 miles of beautiful Northern Michigan wilderness that Treetops is known for on cross-country skis or snowshoes. As promised, there will be four stations offering food and drinks along the way. A perfect way to spend a winter day in the mitten. The events take place on Saturdays through mid March. Price: $89 per person, (includes tax & gratuity). Package rates are available. Also, make sure to check out the weekly Sleigh Ride dinners. More information at http://treetops.com

4. Fenn Valley Winery’s 17th annual Chili Cook-Off and “Wine Lovers Potluck”

What doesn’t sound awesome about a night filled with wine and chili? There will be plenty of it in Fenville this weekend. The categories for chili include: Four Legs (beef and pork), Two Legs (Fowl), Vegetarian (non-meat), and Exotic (Seafood or wild game, including venison). They all sound delicious. The cost to enter is $10, which includes admission for two. For a schedule and more info go to:http://fennvalley.com

3. Brewery Vivant Farmhand Fat Bike Race

Come join (or just watch) Michigan’s original Fat Bike snow race this Saturday at Cannonsburg Ski Area! With the amount of snow we’ve been getting in Michigan this past week, it will no doubt make for an exciting race. The riders will compete to log the most laps in a three hour time period on a closed double track and single track course. All registered racers will receive a custom Brewery Vivant beer glass. Registration is limited so visit http://bikereg.com for event information.

2. Pronto Pup Special Opening

So, you love the snow….but you’re already dreaming about summer. The famous Pronto Pup in Grand Haven is back — just the weekend! If you want a delicious treat they will be serving fresh corn dogs 11:30-8:00 Friday through Sunday. Don’t miss it!

And the No. 1 thing to do this weekend…

We are lucky enough to live an great state for beer, so this weekend why not celebrate our good fortune by getting down to Kalamazoo for Kalamazoo Beer Week! It begins Saturday and continues through Jan. 23. The week-long series features special tastings, dinners, and interactive events. If it’s not enough just to drink the beer, you have the opportunity to meet the brewers and learn more about their craft. For a complete schedule of events go to:http://kalamazoobeerweek.com
