Traverse City, Michigan- Northern Michigan is beautiful any time of the year, but I think my favorite time to visit is late summer. The waters of the bay are crystal blue, the air is warm with gentle breezes, and there is an excitement in the air from all the visitors. Behind the Mitten was lucky to get to tape our show at one of the busiest places in Traverse City, North Peak Brewing Company, located right downtown. Both John and I have visited the brewery before. I taped an episode of the Great American Brew Trail in the former candy factory, and John and I stopped by on our search for Michigans best brewery. Every time we have visited, it is always a great time. The beers you drink at the pub are made on site,by head brewer Dave Hale, so everything is fresh. They also have an amazing kitchen, and I have two words for you: hanger steak. Get it! The fantastic beer based marinade makes this one a winner.
Our beer of the week selection is Diabolical, a crisp little India Pale Ale. Lots of hops give this one tons of citrus, pine, and floral notes. It is one of their most popular beers at the pub, and is also distributed throughout the state in their signature medicine style bottles. We are happy to announce that general manager Mike Lloyd picked this beer as North Peaks Purple Community beer for the next two months. Every time you visit North Peak and order a Diabolical beer, $1 from each pint goes to the Van Andel Institute to help fight cancer. Easy!
Stop by North Peak and grab a pint of their flagship beer, Diabolical. And know that you are drinking to help fight cancer, so don’t feel bad about ordering another pint!
